OPELOUSAS - Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Saturday, August 31, 2013 at Holy Ghost Catholic Church in Opelousas for Mr. Henly Anthony Lastrapes, 87, who entered eternal rest on Thursday, August 22, 2013 at his residence in Opelousas, LA.

Interment will be held in St. Landry Catholic Church cemetery. Father Jaison Mangalath, S.V.D will officiate the services.

Mr. Lastrapes leaves to forever love him and cherish his memories his step mother, Grace Lastrapes of Grand Coteau, LA; one son Bruce Lastrapes (Theresa) of Port Barre, LA; one daughter Kimberly Jackson (Herman) of Baton Rouge, LA; four sisters Tina Simon (Bob) of San Jose, CA, Euretta Lee (George) of Houston, TX, Vivian Sigrid Donatto of Church Point, LA, Paula Williams of Baton Rouge, LA; three brothers James Everette Lastrapes (Nell) and Jude Lastrapes (Velma) both of Opelousas, LA, Don Lastrapes of Grand Coteau, LA; six loving grand children, Kerstin Lastrapes and Edna Richardson (LP) both of Opelousas, LA, Brooke Lastrapes (Iris) and Leotis Lastrapes both of Port Barre, LA; Carlin Jacobs of New Orleans, LA and Courtney Jacobs of Baton Rouge, LA; three great grandchildren Simone Lastrapes, Kaydon Duffy and Brooke Lastrapes II; one step great grandchild Amari Richardson; brother-in-laws Larry Layssard, William Layssard (Mary Ann) and Gilbert Layssard all of Opelousas, LA, Thomas Layssard (Dawn) of Austin, TX, sister-in-law Elouise Lastrapes of Opelousas, LA, Theresa Jones of Houston, TX, and a host of nieces, nephews, godchildren, other relatives and special friends.

Mr. Lastrapes was preceded in death by his wife, Evelyn Lastrapes, his parents Henly Lastrapes and Wilda Swords Lastrapes, one sister Izola Chenier, two brothers Thomas Ira Lastrapes and Joseph Lastrapes, four sister-in-laws Wilhemina Sam, Thelma Lastrapes, Lynn Lastrapes, Juanita Layssard, Audrey Layssard; and six brother-in-laws Joseph Chenier, George Donatto, Eugene Williams, Bill Jones, Emile Layssard, and Burvick Sam.

Mr. Lastrapes was a man who was very devoted to his family and to his work.

He was well known by his peers to be an expert brick mason and carpenter with an undying willingness to help others. He was a World War II veteran. His hobbies were: brick laying, carpentry, hunting, fishing, whistling, and joke telling. He was a man of unchanging simplicity and led a long and prosperous life in that manner. He will forever be cherished and missed by his family and friends.

Visiting hours will be observed from 7:00 A.M. to 10:30 A.M. Saturday, August 31, 2013 at Williams Funeral Home in Opelousas. A rosary will be recited at 9:30 A.M.
