ARNAUDVILLE - Funeral services will be held Saturday, May 25, 2013 at a 10:30 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial in St. Francis Regis Catholic Church in Arnaudville for Irene Prejean, age 79, the former Irene Zerangue, who passed away Wednesday, May 22, 2013 at 1:52 a.m. at Opelousas General Health System in Opelousas.
Interment will be in St. Francis Regis Cemetery in Arnaudville. The Rev. Keenan Brown, pastor of St. Francis Regis Catholic Church, will officiate at the services.
Ms. Prejean was a native of Leonville and lived most of her life in Arnaudville. She was a parishioner of St. Francis Regis Catholic Church in Arnaudville, where she was a member of the Ladies Altar Society.
Survivors include two daughters, Brenda Duplechain and fiancé, Tommy Zeagler, of Bullard, TX and Linda Stelly and husband, Gary, of Arnaudville; four grandchildren, B.J. Duplechain of Yantis, TX, Amber Duplechain of Bullard, TX, Amy Stelly and Christopher Stelly both of Arnaudville ; one great grandchild, Drake Duplechain of Yantis, TX; and one sister, Florence Matte and husband, Robert, of Westlake.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, Bergie Prejean; her parents, Flores Zerangue and the former Agnes Robin; and two sisters, Evelyn Thibodeaux and Shirley Campbell.
A rosary will be prayed at 7:00 p.m. Friday in the funeral home.
The family requests that visiting hours be observed from 10:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. Friday and will continue from 8:00 a.m. until service time on Saturday.
Pallbearers will be Gary Stelly, B.J. Duplechain, Tommy Zeagler, Dwane Campbell, Mike Matte and Lane Matte.
The family would like to express their thanks to Dr. Elliott, Dr. Rees, Dr. Hargroder, Dr. Mendez, Dr. Dibbs, the staff at Opelousas General Hospital, St. Landry Extended Care and J. Michael Morrow Memorial Nursing Home.
