OPELOUSAS - Funeral services will be held Tuesday, August 7, 2012 at a 10:00 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial in St. Landry Catholic Church in Opelousas for Lloyd James Ardoin, Sr., age 79, who passed away Sunday, August 5, 2012 at 8:38 a.m. at Our Lady of Lourdes Regional Medical Center in Lafayette.
Interment will be in Bellevue Memorial Park in Opelousas. The Rev. Msgr. Louis Melancon will officiate at the services.
Musical selections will be provided by Valerie Andrus and Tammy Lynn. The songs will be The Old Rugged Cross, Amazing Grace, Take My Hand Precious Lord and Just A Closer Walk With Thee.
Mr. Ardoin was a native of Lebeau and a resident of Opelousas for most of his life. He was self-employed as an owner and operator of Lloyd Ardoin Grocery and Market for 18 years, had been employed with Security Life Insurance Company for 18 years, and was currently employed with Melancon Life Insurance Company and Melancon Funeral Home since 2001. He had served 25 years on the St. Landry Parish Drainage Board and had retired as Vice-President of that board. Mr. Ardoin was a lifetime member of the Opelousas Elk's Lodge 1408 and American Legion Post 209 in Washington. He was a parishioner of St. Landry Catholic Church in Opelousas. A veteran of the military, Mr. Ardoin proudly served his country during the Korean Conflict with the 14th AAA Anticraft Gun Battalion as a radar operator.
Survivors include his wife of 56 years, Birdie L. Brown Ardoin of Opelousas; three sons, Lloyd Ardoin, Jr. and his wife, Laurie, Thomas Wayne Ardoin and his wife, Kay, and Tony Charles Ardoin and his wife, Melody, all of Opelousas; eight grandchildren, Scott Ardoin, Kelley Ardoin, Dustin Ardoin, Alexis Ardoin, Sarah Richard and her husband, Neal, Ben Ardoin, Joshua Ardoin and Anna Ardoin; one brother, Burnley "Blanc" Ardoin and his wife, Gladys, of Opelousas; and one sister, Wilmur Weeks of Baton Rouge.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Dudley Ardoin and the former Odette Deshotels, both natives of Grand Prairie; three brothers, Russell J. Ardoin, John R. Ardoin, and Louis Alvin Ardoin; and one sister, Mary Lee Vidrine.
A rosary will be prayed at 6:00 p.m. Monday in the funeral home.
The family requests that visiting hours be observed from 3:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. Monday and will continue from 8:00 a.m. until service time on Tuesday.
Pallbearers will be Lloyd Ardoin, Jr., Wayne Ardoin, Tony Ardoin, Larry Weeks, Dustin Ardoin and Ben Ardoin. Honorary pallbearers will be Burnley "Blanc" Ardoin, Tommy Leach, Ronnie "Wine" Ardoin, Carl Weeks and Mike Weeks.
