MELVILLE - Funeral services will be held at 10:45 A.M. Saturday, March 1, 2014 at Evening Star Baptist Church in Melville, LA for Mrs. Clara Murphy Percy, 95, who entered eternal rest on Friday, February 21, 2014 in Glendale, Arizona.
Interment will be in Sweet Home Community Cemetery in Melville, LA. Pastor Brett Simien officiating.
On January 27, 1919, Levy Murphy and Rosena (Carter) were blessed with a daughter, Sis. Clara Percy, affectionately known as "Tuta".
A loving and caring mother, grandmother, and homemaker, Sis. Clara was an excellent cook and enjoyed preparing meals for her family and friends. Sis. Clara accepted Christ early in life and had an unwavering faith in God. She later married the late Leonard Percy ("Popa Boo"). To this union three children were born.
Sis. Clara was a member of the Evening Star Baptist Church, where she became very involved with the church and assisted with numerous activities. She was a Choir member, Church Secretary, Deaconess, attended Mission, Prayer Service, and Bible Study. Sis. Clara was an affiliate of the Eastern Star Organization (OES). Sis. Clara worked for the St. Landry Parish School Board for many years until her retirement doing what she loved best, preparing wonderful meals for the children of Phyllis Wheatley High School.
On Friday, February 21, 2014 at 7:22 p.m. at the age of 95, Sis. Clara answered the call to be with our Lord, in Glendale, Arizona, where she lived with her caregiver and daughter Ivory Nell Percy. Thoughts and memories of Sis. Clara will be cherished by her children: Lindia Joy (LaSalle) Jones, Arthur Roy Baldwin, Ivory Nell Percy, numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great-great grandchildren.
Sis. Clara touched the lives of many and will be missed by all who knew her.
Visiting hours will be observed from 8:00 A.M. to 10:45 A.M. Saturday, March 1, 2014 at Evening Star Baptist Church in Melville, LA.
