On Wednesday, April 23, 2014, a beloved flower was picked from the earthly garden, bound for a new home in Glory, where there is no weeping, no pain, no sorrow, and no disappointment. We know she's satisfied now and that she's reaping her great reward.
Mathilda was born on June 28, 1962 to the late Clarence Mallet Sr. and Louise Oakley Mallet in Lafayette, LA at Lafayette Charity Hospital. She was baptized under the leadership of Pastor Eddie Lewis at an early age. After returning home from being a military wife/mom in Alaska and Kansas, she remained a faithful member of the Greater Live Oak Baptist Church in Opelousas, LA, under the leadership of Pastor Jason Rubin Sr., whom she loved very dearly. She was passionate about going to church and worshiping with her fellow church members. She was always a kind-hearted woman who touched so many people that she came across in her life. She was always known for her sweet personality, but her feisty side would also appear whenever necessary. She loved her family and enjoyed spending quality time with them. She truly will be missed by her family and friends.
Mathilda was married to Arthur Lee Keys for nineteen years and to this union, one daughter was born, Ashley Nicole Keys. Throughout her life, Ashley has always been the center of her mother's attention. Ashley brought purpose to her mother's will to live. At the time of her departure, Mathilda had been in a thirteen year relationship, with Augustus Semien.
She leaves to cherish her many memories: her daughter, Ashley Keys of Opelousas, LA; her mother, Louise Oakley Mallet of Opelousas, LA; two sisters, Wanda Gail Mallet and Elonda Faye Mallet both of Opelousas, LA; one brother, Clarence Mallet Jr. of Opelousas, LA; three nieces, Shimira Marks, LaShonda Thomas, Ieisha Thomas, all of Opelousas, four nephews, Quamae Mallet, her favorite, Donvonta Mallet, both of Opelousas, Tyrone Mallet, of Houston, Tx, and Malik Mallet of Virginia; her godfather, Wilbert Hunt, of Houston, Tx, her only godchild, Davyon Forsythe of Opelousas, LA; six sisters-in-law, Leola Guidry, Deborah Keys, and Anita Keys, all of Baton Rouge, La., Joyce (Ray) Henderson, Bernadine (Clifton) Thomas, and Vivian Keys, all of Houston, Tx., three brothers-in-law, Lionel (Betty) Keys, of Houston, Tx., Ronald W.
