Iris Elaine Pitre

OPELOUSAS - A memorial service for Mrs. Iris Elaine Pitre will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, May 14, 2014, in the Sibille Funeal Home Chapel of Opelousas.

A wonderful mother, sister, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend, Iris Elaine Pitre, died peacefully on Friday, May 9, 2014 at her home in Lafayette, LA. She was 67.

A native of Opelousas, Elaine lived in Lafayette the past seven years with her longtime companion and best friend, Wilfred "T-Boy" Grossie of Lafayette, who was at her side when she passed away.

She was known for her die-hard determination and unsurpassed strength as was evident up to the time of her death. She had battled various illnesses the past few years, but Elaine, being the fighter she was, refused to give up. In the end it was God's will and she relinquished herself to Him, knowing she had fought the valiant battle, setting an example of "never give up" for those she left behind.

She will be missed by many, those who knew her and were close to her, and by those who maybe only had a brief encounter with her. Elaine's presence will have a lifetime impact on everyone who was fortunate enough to meet her.

A former long-time employee of Piggly Wiggly in Opelousas, Elaine enjoyed fishing, crocheting, Saints football, NASCAR, and most of all spending time with her family and friends. She also loved her dog Oscar as her own child.

Elaine moved onto a peaceful life, leaving two sons, Ronald Pitre, Sr. and his wife, Wendy of Lafayette; and Michael Pitre, and his wife, Lacie, of Turkey Creek; one daughter, Donna K. Pitre, of Opelousas; one sister, Janice Brown and her husband, J.L. of Opelousas; one sister-in-law, Cookie Venable of Ponchatoula; grandchildren, Ronald Pitre II and his wife, Stacie, Channing Pitre, Mazi Pitre, Destin Pitre, Ian Pitre, Caymin Pitre and wife, Nikki, Jase Pitre and Kain Pitre; great-grandchildren, Ronald Pitre III, Camryn Pitre and Cayden Pitre, due to arrive June 16; nieces, Nikki Venable Brooks and her husband, Kelly; Chrissie Klein and her husband, Rory; nephew, Brandon Brown; and great-niece, Kandi Venable.

Elaine is now celebrating the peace of her new life with the Lord and those who preceded her in death, particularly her birth parents, Orin Jennings and Iris Richard; grandmother and grandfather, Della and Lawrence Sonnier; brothers, Johnnie Venable and Hank Perrodin; niece, Shannon Venable Bowers; and grandson, Christopher Michael Pitre.

A remembrance of Elaine's life will be Wednesday, May 14, 2014, from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. at Sibille Funeral Home in Opelousas. A memorial service will follow at the funeral home.
