GRAND COTEAU - Funeral services for Joseph Junius Taylor will be held Saturday, March 26, 2011 at 1:00 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Charles Borromeo Roman Catholic Church, and the interment will take place at the St. Charles Borromeo Cemetery in Grand Coteau. Rev. James L. Lambert, S.J. will officiate. The family requests that visiting hours at Melancon Funeral Home of Grand Coteau be observed from 8:00 a.m. Saturday until the time of the services. A rosary will be recited at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home.

Mr. Taylor was a native and lifelong resident of St. Landry Parish. He was a parishioner of Christ the King Church in Bellevue. He died Saturday, March 19, 2011 at 5:00 a.m. at Evangeline Oaks Nursing Home in Carencro at age 79.

Survivors include his wife of sixty years, Myrtle Mae Lewis Taylor, of Sunset; three sons, Roland Taylor and his wife, Peggy, of Cankton, Raymond Taylor and his wife, Connie, and Robert Taylor and his wife, Geraldine, all of Carencro; six daughters, Barbara Taylor, Gloria Taylor, Julia Nelson and her husband, Horace, all of Houston, Priscilla Pickens of Bellevue, Vanessa Taylor of Sunset, Paula Taylor Bonnet and her husband, Glen, of Carencro; thirteen grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; two brothers, Carol "Ton" Taylor and his wife, Alice, and Ronald Taylor and his wife, Jocelyn, all of Port Arthur; two sisters, Cora "T-Mae" Smith and her husband, Wilfred, of New Orleans, Mary M. "Marie" Stover and her husband, Darryl, of Port Arthur; and two step-sisters, Grace "Soon" Babineaux and Vivian Briscoe, both of Grand Coteau.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Provost Taylor and the former Julia Johnson, both natives of St. Landry Parish; three brothers, Arthur Taylor, Chester "Chess" Taylor and Vincent "Boo" Taylor; three sisters, Leona "Sister" Alfred, Doris Ramey, Lois Taylor; and close step-sister, Quincy Gotch.
