OPELOUSAS - Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Saturday, May 5, 2012 at Holy Ghost Catholic Church in Opelousas, LA, for Alton Guillory, 91, who entered eternal rest, Wednesday, April 25, 2012 at the Heart Hospital of Lafayette.
Interment will be in Bellevue Memorial Park in Opelousas, LA. Rev. Jaison Mangalath, S.V.D. will officiate at the Mass of Christian burial.
Mr. Guillory is survived by his daughter, Martha Jean Delane (Charles) of Plantation, FL; four grandchildren, Dana Delane-Williams of Fort Lauderdale, FL, Mira Riley (Dexter) of Pembroke Pines, FL, Alton Delane (Linh) of Denville, NJ and Charles Delane, II. (Betsy) of Plantation, FL; six great grandchildren, Brittany Williams, Brianna Williams, Hannah Delane, Alton Vinh Delane, Caleb Delane and Jacob Delane; two sisters, Mary Catherine Stewart of Opelousas, LA and Jeanita Barton of Los Angeles, CA; a brother, Lester Guillory of Los Angeles, CA; two step children, Judy Thierry and Aaron Thomas both of Opelousas, LA; three step-grandchildren, Travis Thierry, Demetrius Thomas and April Thomas; four step great grandchildren and a host of other relatives and special friends.
Mr. Guillory was preceded in death by his wife, Irene Ross Guillory; his second wife, Carrie Thomas Guillory; parents, Arthur Guillory and Celeste Young Guillory; three sisters, Mildred Lewis, Celeste Ethel Warren and Esther Ellsworth Collins and a brother, John "Bobby" Guillory.
He served his country in the United States Navy. After a two year tour, he returned home, attended masonry school and became a master of the trade. Alton shared his training and experience with many aspiring bricklayers in the area and the local landscape is dotted with construction projects that he supervised.
Visiting hours will be observed from 7:00 A.M. to 10:30 A.M. Saturday, May 5, 2012 at Williams Funeral Home in Opelousas, LA.
