ARNAUDVILLE - Funeral services will be held Monday, July 7, 2014 at an 11:00 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial in St. Francis Regis Catholic Church in Arnaudville for Lennard J. "Nook" Martin, Sr., age 90, who passed away Saturday, July 5, 2014 at 7:30 a.m. at his residence in Arnaudville.
Interment will be in St. Francis Regis Cemetery in Arnaudville. The Rev. Gary Schexnayder, pastor of St. Elizabeth Seton Catholic Church, will officiate at the services. Readers will be Ashley Martin and Tori Martin. Giftbearers will be Hannah Martin and Tanya Thibodeaux.
Mr. Martin was a native and lifelong resident of Arnaudville. He was a soybean and dairy farmer in his early years. He then was employed with the St. Landry Parish Sherriff's Office with 16 years under Sheriff Howard Zerangue and was also employed with the St. Landry Parish District Attorney's Office under Earl Taylor. He was a veteran of the military, having served in the U.S. Army during World War II. Mr. Martin was a member of the V.F.W. Post in Arnaudville, a member of the American Legion Post in Leonville, and a member of the Disabled American Veterans. In 2001, he served as State Commander of the V.F.W. and was an All American Commander. He was a parishioner of St. Francis Regis Catholic Church in Arnaudville.
Survivors include his wife of sixty seven years, the former, Florena Tauzin of Arnaudville; three sons, Lennard "Joe" Martin, Jr. and his wife, Pauline, Dan Martin and his wife, Monique, and Ed Martin and his wife, Francine, all of Arnaudville; one daughter, Cheryl Hardy and her husband, Howard, of Arnaudville; twelve grandchildren; ten great grandchildren and one great grandchild on the way; two great, great grandchildren and one on the way; and one sister, Barbara Domingue of Lafayette.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Clifford Martin and the former, Alma Derousselle, both natives of Arnaudville; one sister, Elsie Hardy; two brothers-in-law, Able Hardy and Lester Domingue; and one sister-in-law, Romia Martin.
A rosary will be prayed at 7:00 p.m. Sunday in the funeral home.
The family requests that visiting hours be observed from 11:00 a.m. until 9:00 p.m. Sunday and will continue from 8:00 a.m. until service time on Monday.
The family would like to extend a special thanks to members and staff of Louisiana Hospice and Palliative Care during his illness.
