Carl Vance

1937 - 2014

Vance, Carl William "Cardy" Carl William "Cardy" Vance was born February 9, 1937 and passed away July 19, 2014. He was born in Dallas and lived majority of his life in the Lakewood and East Dallas areas. He attended St. Edward's School, Jesuit High School, and Southern Methodist University. While still attending SMU he began working with Jerry Lane and Dan Gorman, forming a business partnership and friendship that would surpass 50 years. Carl was a CPA devoted to his clients and took great pleasure in seeing their businesses thrive. Cardy was very active in Knights of Columbus Council 799 serving as Grand Night twice and known for serving at the Friday Night Fish Fries. If Cardy is remembered for one thing at the KC it was his passion for organizing the annual Sisters Appreciation Dinner now known as the Paul Bagley/Cardy Vance Sisters' Appreciation Dinner. As his sons were growing up he coached football and T-ball and participated in Indian Guides for the YMCA. Cardy was also well known at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic church as a long time usher at 7:30 Mass. He was preceded in death by his father Rayburn Vance, his mother Rosalie Vance, his sister Mary Alice Maher, his brothers Ray and Mike Vance, and his son John Michael Vance. He is survived by his wife of more than 50 years Sandra Jean Vance and their sons and Jeffrey, Joseph, Andrew, and Patrick. He is also survived by his brother Jodie, sister Sissy, grandchildren, great grandchil-dren, and many nieces, nephews, grand nieces and grand nephews. A Rosary will be held 7:00 PM, Wednesday, July 23. A Memorial Mass will be celebrated Thursday, July 24 at 10:00 AM. Both services will be at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church, 6306 Kenwood Ave, Dallas, Texas. A reception will follow the Memorial Mass at the Knights of Columbus 799 Hall, 10110 Shoreview Road. In lieu of flowers, a donation may be made to the Paul Bagley/Cardy Vance Sisters' Appreciation Dinner care of Knight of Columbus Council 799 or the charity of your choice.
