Richard J. Rosenberg

1926 - 2015

ROSENBERG, Richard J. Richard J. Rosenberg, a true Southern Gentleman, passed away December 25, 2015. Born November 13, 1926 in Columbus, Georgia to Maurice and Rosalind Rosenberg, Richard grew up in Columbus in the midst of a very close family, including his cousins Frank and Maxine. Richard attended The Citadel and served in the Air Force as part of the occupying force immediately following World War II. He graduated from the University of Virginia, and then returned to Columbus to work with his grandfather. Richard met Sydney Hohenberg at the wedding of his cousin Frank to Sydney's cousin Kay, and in December 1951 they married. They lived in Columbus and moved to Dallas in 1953. Richard enjoyed a successful career selling life and health insurance. He enjoyed a large and very close circle of friends. Weekends were devoted to tennis and getting together with family and friends. Favorite vacations were spent in Columbus, Destin, Scottsdale and traveling to many other places. Richard volunteered his time as a member of the Board of Temple Emanu-El, the Alzheimer's Association and as a mentor with PLAN of North Texas. In his last years, Richard was devoted to taking care of Sydney and held on to life despite his own illness to be sure he would be with her. He was predeceased by his beloved wife Sydney, who died just seven weeks ago, his brother-in-law Morris Hohenberg, his sister-in-law and brother-in-law Ruth and George Golman. He is survived by his sons Rick (Sally) and John (Kerri Aikin), his grandchildren Buddy (Amanda), Robyn, Halley and his great-grand daughter Reagan. He is also survived by his nieces, nephews and their families Sydney Burton (Rodney), Sally Golman and Steve Golman. The family would like to acknowledge the constant devotion and care provided to Richard and our family by Digna Munguia, Doris Mejia, the staff at Chandler Way Assisted Living and Compass Hospice. In lieu of flowers, donations in Richard's memory may be made to Temple Emanu-El, 8500 Hillcrest, Dallas, TX 75225, Community Homes for Adults, Inc., 13101 Preston Road, Suite 312, Dallas, TX 75240, or to a charity of your choice. A Memorial Service for Richard will be held at 3:00 p.m. in the Olan Sanctuary at Temple Emanu-El on Monday, December 28th.
