Everts, Jimmie Etta Mayfield
EVERTS, Jimmie Etta Mayfield 1928 - 2016 Jimmie Etta Mayfield Everts passed peacefully in the early morning of June 18, 2016. Throughout her long, productive life Jimmie was outgoing, fun-loving, thoughtful and an indefatigable person-- beautiful in body and spirit; she never met a stranger and rarely lost contact with a friend. Jimmie was born December 15, 1928 to James Walter Mayfield and Ruby Teaff Mayfield in Merkel, Texas. She was the younger sister of Minnie Alice Mayfield Tippen. The family moved into Abilene, Texas, where the sisters attended school. Jimmie graduated from Abilene High School in 1946. Raised in the Southside Baptist Church in Abilene, Jimmie went to Hardin Simmons University, where she was a member of the Cowgirls. While at Hardin Simmons, Jimmie met Frank Everts, Jr., and they were married August 3, 1948. Upon Frank's graduation from Hardin Simmons in December 1948, the couple moved to Dallas, Texas. Frank joined the family business and worked for Everts Jewelers. Jimmie established a home and soon had a growing family of Cora Christine (Cissy), Alice Roselyn (Rosie) and Frank III. Besides caring for the growing family, Jimmie was active in the Junior League of Dallas, Women of Rotary, PEO, Christian Women's Fellowship, garden and book clubs, and PTAs of her children's schools. She often taught Sunday school, Vacation Bible School, or sang in the choir at East Dallas Christian Church. She was always willing to help where needed. Jimmie always enjoyed meeting new people, learning about their lives, hearing their needs and hopes. She was the consummate caregiver, not only of family and friends, but also of any neighbor in need. She learned to drive at age 9 and throughout her life always loved driving friends to doctor appointments and for errands. Jimmie was known for her beautiful, thick, thick hair, Southern graciousness, hospitality, cooking, and unique handwriting. Loving to send special occasion cards, Jimmie would write beautiful notes of encouragement and letters to family and friends. She never missed a birthday or anniversary. Her handwriting was so beautiful and special that she was often begged to address wedding invitations. Her notes are treasured by the family. After a divorce Jimmie worked at SMU as receptionist for Dedman College for ten years. She made sure that final GPAs and com-mencement programs were correct. After retirement, Jimmie enjoyed living in Houston and San Marcos, where it was her pride and joy to help with her grandchildren and be involved in the communi-ty. In San Marcos, her volunteer work included member of the Scheib Board, secretary of the Homeowners' Association of Village at Springtown condos, working the voting polls on Election Day, and Meals on Wheels. Among some of the treasured wisdom her grand-children cherish was watching her model and teach the importance of a positive attitude in any circumstance and to always be on time - which is fifteen minutes early! Jimmie is preceded in death by her parents and sister. She is survived by three children, Cissy Everts Hornbuckle, Rosie Everts Morris, and Frank Everts III and wife Susan Everts. Jimmie is also survived by seven grandchildren who will remember years of happy times with their "Mimi". They are Laura Hornbuckle, John Spence Hornbuckle, Rachel Morris, Ruth Morris, Rosemary Everts, Hillary Everts, and Emily Everts. She is survived by niece and nephews, Peter Tippen, Philip Tippen, Susan Tippen Montgomery, their spouses, and children. Visitation will be held Friday, June 24, 2016 from 6 pm to 8 pm at Pennington Funeral Home, San Marcos, Texas. Family interment will be at 10 am on Saturday, June 25, 2016 at San Marcos Cemetery, 1001 Old Ranch Road 12, San Marcos. Memorial services will be held at First Christian Church, San Marcos, Texas, on Saturday, June 25, 2016 at 1 pm and at East Dallas Christian Church on Sunday, June 26, 2016 at 1:30 pm. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to East Dallas Christian Church; American Cancer Society; Dr. Roselyn Morris Scholarship Fund, Texas State University, McCoy College, San Marcos, Texas; or charity of your choice. Arrangements by Pennington Funeral Home, San Marcos, Texas, 512-353-4311. www.penn ingtonfuneralhome.com
