Charles Beach (Chuck) Baker(1923 - 2013)

Baker, Charles (Chuck) Beach Born Aug. 24, 1923 in London Mills, IL, passed away Sunday, Sept. 8, 2013. He will be greatly missed by his daughter, Michaele Southard and husband, Bob, son, John Charles Baker, daughter, Virginia Jones, daughter, Kati Cavanaugh and husband, Dennis, and his life companion, Marilyn Paris. He is also survived by his nine grandchildren and three nieces and two nephews, the children of his deceased brother, Marvyn Baker. Chuck graduated from Knox College in Galesburg, IL and was a first alternate to attend West Point. He served in the Army as a SFC, based in McClellan, AL. He was honorably discharged in 1946 with a victory metal, American theater ribbon and a good conduct medal. He was a man of great compassion and humor, a poet, a faithful friend and loving father. He was a natural born salesman and idea man who began his career selling carnival tickets at age 12 and later became an advertising executive with Sears Roebuck managing the Dallas region. He participated in Education For Democracy teaching English in Czechoslovakia, was involved with Habitat for Humanity, Elderhostel of AL, Goodwill Industries, and served as president of the Dallas Ad League. Special thanks to the nurses and staff at the Veteran's Hospital - CLC Hospice Care facility, for their excellent care and loving service during this difficult time.
