Doris Chism

CHISM, DORIS, 82, passed away on November 24, 2005, Thanksgiving Day, which is a proper day of memorial for her life. Doris was born March 3, 1923 in Quanah, Texas. At age 17 she married the love of her life, Royce Chism, and began a lifetime of service to her family, church and friends. Over their 65 years of marriage, she and Royce raised 3 wonderful children: Linda, Wayne and De, 7 Grandchildren, and 10 Great Grandchildren. Doris had been a resident of Irving for 55 years where she sold Real Estate for many years and was an active member of Plymouth Park Church of Christ. She loved crossword puzzles, Texas "42", making a Coconut Bunny Cake at Easter and getting the family together for holidays and birthdays. Her favorite saying was "Whoever told you it was going to be easy?" when anyone nearby was confronted with a problem. Doris passed on a legacy of honesty, hard work, frugality and dedication - dedication to Royce and her family and to insuring that all were reminded to "always do the right thing" Doris nurtured her children during the first 23 years of marriage, and when the kids left for college she began her career in the Real Estate Sales, Property Management and Rental Business. She had a life-long love for her home in Irving, and they maintained their residence here while she aided Royce in pursuing land, cattle and ranching ventures. She had a passion for travel: she toured China, Ireland, Spain, Thailand, Australia and the Holy Lands. She never dreamed a small town girl from Quanah would get to see the world. Doris leaves behind her loving Husband of 65 years, Royce Chism; Daughter & Husband, Linda & Bill McEwan of Charlotte, N.C.; Son & Wife, Wayne & June Chism of Utopia, TX.; Daughter & Husband, De & Clint Brown of Nocona, TX.;7 Grandchildren; and 10 Great Grandchildren, and innumerable friends.
