Lorayne Patricia McHugh(1953 - 2012)

McHugh, Lorayne Patricia Lorayne Patricia McHugh was born on October 2, 1953, in Mattoon, Illinois, to James P. McHugh, Sr. and Helen Pittman McHugh. She was the fifth of eight children in an ever boisterous, but close and loving, family. She passed on December 4, 2012, in Lenexa, Kansas, of a heart attack. Her entire life, Lorayne was, first and foremost, a caregiver. She truly listened to, and cared about, what others thought, felt and experienced, always seeking to understand their perspectives and help them however she could. This calling manifested itself in every stage of her life, whether as a mother, daughter, sister, nurse or volunteer. She devoted nearly 30 years to her daughters, Lauren and Alexandra, seeing to their every emotional, spiritual and material need, often at the expense of her own. As they grew up, she continued to pursue her calling by going to nursing school, earning her second college degree, a Bachelor of Science in Nursing, summa cum laude, from Texas Woman's University in December 2011. Never taking a breath for herself, in her spare time, her love of the elderly led her to volunteer for several nursing homes, both in Dallas and Kansas City. Selfless to a fault, her family and friends will always cherish and remember her as a woman who never hesitated to give of herself when she was needed. She is preceded in death by her parents, her sisters, Barbara McHugh and Maureen McHugh, and her second-mother, Roberta Christie. She is survived by her daughters and daughter-in-law, Alexandra Mutti, Lauren Mutti and Erin Burke; her siblings and siblings-in-law, James and Dianne McHugh, Mary McHugh and Dennis Gumieny, Michael and Tracy McHugh, Kevin and Devi McHugh and Ann McHugh; her siblings-in-spirit, Carl and Virginia Francis, Franklin Christie and John Murray, and Roby and Renee Christie, as well as many, many loving nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. Services celebrating her life will be on Monday, December 10, 2012 at 10:00 A.M. at D.W. Newcomer's Sons Johnson County Chapel, 11200 Metcalf Ave, Overland Park, Kansas 66210, with a graveside service at Resurrection Catholic Cemetery to follow. A visitation will be held on Sunday, December 9, 2012 from 6:00 to 7:00 P.M. at D.W. Newcomer's Sons Johnson County Chapel. Her life was cut short far too soon, but it was full of love and its impact great. We love you, Lorayne, and will miss you.
