Mary Nell Ing

Ing, Mary Nell Mary Nell Gates Ing, 93, was born June 2, 1920, in Lytle, Texas to Samuel and Winifred Riley Gates, and died March 16, 2014 in Dallas. She was highly regarded as a teacher and church organist/pianist in both Corpus Christi and Dallas. Mary Nell held a Bachelor's degree from Southwest Texas State Teacher's College in San Marcos and a Masters in Music from the University of Texas in Austin. While she pursued careers as professor of piano and theory at the University of Corpus Christi and Dallas Baptist University, private piano teacher, then real estate broker, she also raised six children in a home filled with music, laughter and love. Mary Nell's ability to encourage and nurture young musicians will never be forgotten, but her greatest joy came when she accompanied Frank, our beloved dad, in his singing. Mary Nell was preceded in death by Frank, her cherished husband of 67 years, son Stephen, and granddaughter Sarah. She is survived by sons, David Ing (Sheron Smith-Savage) and Daniel Ing(Sonya); daughters, Rebecca Cothren (Ron), Mary Elizabeth Kay (Barney) and Martha Scallorn (Richard); 10 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. A memorial celebration of Mary Nell's life will be held on Saturday, March 22, 2014, 2:00 PM, at Jaynes Memorial Chapel, with a visitation on Friday, March 21, 2014, from 6:00 to 8:00 pm.
