Schafer, Wuanita Johnsen Wuanita Erica Johnsen Schafer died peaceably in her home January 16, 2013. She was born in Dallas, Texas, July 8, 1908, to Danish immigrants Hans and Erica Sorensen Johnsen. She went to Forrest High School then on to SMU. After a year or so, her education at SMU was interrupted by the depression. She met Sidney Schafer in the summer of 1935 while he was working on a geophysical crew near Atlanta, Texas. They were married the day after Christmas in 1936 and had a nomadic beginning to their marriage, moving frequently with the geophysical work. She had a full life traveling to many different parts of the world on business and pleasure. She was amazingly active for her age, playing duplicate bridge, and renewing her driver's license at 103 yrs. She was a wonderful cook, gracious hostess, and had a great sense of humor, laughing frequently at her own mistakes. She was a charter member of the Houston Geological Auxiliary (1950) and the Bailita Dance Club (1946). Predeceased by her husband of 65 years, Sidney, and youngest son Mark, she is survived by son Stuart and his wife Diane, son Stephen, and daughter in law, Belle Schafer Petkas, five grandchildren, and eleven great grandchildren. She was a gracious, loving lady who will be greatly missed by her family and close friends.
