Alex Gillum Obituary
Gillum, Alex James 74, known as "A.J." "Mudd" and "Coach Gillum" slipped gracefully into the corridors of heaven on Wednesday, June 18, 2013. He was born on February 28, 1939 to the late Arthur and Lena Gillum in Lake Charles, LA. In high school, he played football, basketball, ran track and played in the band. After graduating from college, he began his coaching career. He will always be remembered as a Player, Teacher, Coach and Mentor. He leaves to cherish: his son, Alex, Jr. (Willetta), daughter, Paige, brother, Arthur Harold (Alice), granddaughters, Alexis and Tori, nieces, Michelle and Cheryl (Johnny), special cousins, Ruth and Rene, adopted sons, Steve Hudson, Burt Rogers and Calvin Jeffery, god-sisters, Vickie Gardner and Terri Gibert, close friend, William Stell (Rebecca), the Wickliff family and a host of relatives and friends. You may visit Coach Gillum from 1 to 4 p.m. Friday at the Golden Gate Funeral Home. Celebratory Service: Friday, June 21, from 6:30 to 8:00 p.m. at Friendship West Baptist Church, 2020 W. Wheatland Road., Dallas, Texas 75232.
