Black, Brenda Brenda J. Black, 57, beloved wife, sister, aunt and friend passed away Thursday, January 8, 2009 at her home in Lewisville TX, after bravely battling cancer for more than two years. Brenda was born October 11, 1951 in Fairfax, VA to Blanche Maxine Smallwood and Arthur Gilbert Johnson. She married Alvin Black on June 25, 1988 in Farmers Branch, TX. Brenda spent 36 years in public service, working for the Environmental Protection Agency and the Federal Emergency Management Agency, where she was known for her dedication, compassion and mentoring abilities. She retired from FEMA in 2006 as a branch chief. Brenda was known to all for her loving heart and graceful spirit. While Brenda worked hard, she also believed in playing hard. She never missed a fun gathering with her multitude of friends, often playing host of the party. One of her greatest joys was traveling with Al and friends. Visitation will be Saturday, January 10, 2009 from 5 - 7 p.m. at DeBerry Funeral Directors, 2025 W. University Dr., Denton, TX 76201. Funeral service will be Sunday, January 11, 2009 at 10:30 a.m. in the chapel of DeBerry Funeral Directors. Burial will be at 3:00 p.m. at Dover Cemetery near Van, TX. She is survived by her husband, Alvin; two brothers, Kevin Johnson and Keith Johnson of Northern Virginia; 6 nephews and 4 nieces. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to
