David Arthur Flory

1938 - 2015

FLORY, David Arthur Born Feb. 20, 1938 Died Dec. 20, 2015 David was born in San Francisco, CA, the first child to Esther and Chester Flory. He spent the next several years traveling through Asia with his parents. Following the Asian adventure, they settled in Grant Pass, Oregon, where they lived till David left for college at Harvard University. He earned a B.S. in microbiology and met his first wife, Anna, in Boston. They moved to California with their son Eron and, later, had a daughter, Nina. David spent 30 years at the San Jose, CA Police Department, first as a motorcycle officer, and later introduced computers to all aspects of police work in San Jose. After his retirement from the SJPD, he expanded his computer teaching to other police departments around the USA. After retirement, he moved to Flower Mound, Texas, with his second wife, Joella and, recently, moved to Lewisville, Texas, where he was living when he died from liver cancer, which had been diagnosed only weeks before. David loved aikido, motor-cycling, scuba diving, kayaking and dogs. He taught aikido and motorcycling at many times during his life to very diverse groups of people. The common thread in these, and many of his other activities, was helping people to help themselves. David is survived by his children Eron Flory and Nina Stephenson; grandchildren Amanda Nelson, Jessica Sleeper and William Stephenson; great-grand-children Jordyn and Chase Nelson. He is also survived by his siblings Judy Zlatnik, Robert Flory, Susan Brooks and Donald Flory; ex-wife Joella Collier and girlfriend, Kartika Anderson.
