Deanna Summers Obituary

Deanna Lane (Trentham) Summers, 76, surrounded by family and close friends, passed away peacefully at home on Valentine's Day. Born in New Albany, MS, to Arthur (USN) and Jewel (Gafford) Trentham, Dea, with her parents, moved to Texas after the War. Right after her 21st birthday and at the start of her modeling career she met Dallas entertainer Gene Summers one night after a show. They were soon married. Dea started a new career at Texas Instruments from where she retired as an Executive Staff Secretary in 1991. Among many creative pursuits she was also a published songwriter, creating many titles for and with Gene. She loved traveling, especially touring with Gene in Europe and the U.S. where she made many lasting friendships with fans and artists alike. Dea, aka "Diva Dea", was a creative, loving and one-of-a-kind woman, wife, mother and soul. She will be dearly missed, but will be with us forever in our memories and hearts. She is survived by her husband of 56 years, Gene; sons Dusty, Steve and Shawn; 3 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren. A celebration of her life will be held at Williams Funeral Directors in Garland at 3:30PM on Saturday, February 25, 2017.

To Gene Summers

Gene i'm so sorry to read about Dea in the obituaries. I remember meeting Dea at your record store on 1st st in Garland and I knew her from Texas Inst. She was a sweet and classy lady.

I don't think you will remember my sister and I, we were probably ages 11 and 14 at the time. You gave us the privilege of going to café and getting your lunch. You liked teasing my sister Judy about a kid that was around her age. I have followed your career and I am pleased to know that you and Dea had such a long marriage.

I am now 71 and very happily married. I just wanted you to know that my sister and I have never forgotten you or Dea. God Bless you, Barbara Hawkings Ramirez

It is hard to post some farewell words for Dea, a nice woman I have never meet. For the support given to Gene and her musical skill, she was part of the big worlwide rock-a-billy family. We know than nothing great is possible without the strong support of family, wife and childrens. An entertainer life is made of up and down, success and failures. Only a strong familial background helps to make it through. So we, 50's music buffs, want to express our Thanks to Dea for having give her blessing to Gene's numerous tour in Europe and for the steady support given to his musical activities. There will always a seat kept empty at the Reminisce Cafe. Death can't stop Love and dreams. Dea will stay with us ... These we love last longer than death.
