Dorothy Laverne Ackels Obituary
Ackels, Dorothy LaVerne Dorothy LaVerne Ackels passed away peacefully in her sleep November 19, 2010. "Toots", as she was known to her family and friends, was born in Dallas, September 11, 1925 to Samuel John and Stella Kelley Ackels. She lived most of her life in Dallas, but the past several years resided with her sister and family in Fort Worth. She attended Ursuline Academy and was a founding member of the Lebanese Women's Club in Dallas. Preceded in death by her parents and sister, Norma Ackels Salem, she is survived by her sister, Marlene Ackels Mallick of Fort Worth and her brother, Paul, and his wife, Ellen Ackels of Boca Raton, Florida. She is also survived by fourteen nieces and nephews, twenty-three great nieces and nephews and numerous other relatives. Toots will be remembered for her terrific memory, her devotion to and love of her faith and family, her willingness to sacrifice for others and never be too busy to sit with a child to teach them their numbers and letters. She will be greatly missed by all who had the good fortune to know her. Services will be Monday, November 22, 2010 at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church, Dallas. Visitation, 10:30 AM, Rosary 11 AM, followed by the Mass of Christian Burial with Celebrant, Rev. Msgr. Milam J. Joseph. Interment will follow at Calvary Hill Cemetery. Pallbearers are Anthony J. Ackels, J. Christopher Mallick, Stephen J. Mallick, Samuel T. Mallick, Joseph M. Mallick, John R. Mallick. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to: St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105. Sparkman/Hillcrest Funeral Home, 7405 Northwest Highway, Dallas, Texas 75225 is in charge of arrangements.
