John Allen Funk. Born in Fremont, Iowa on January 15, 1923. passed away in Dallas, Texas on June 20, 2013, at the age of 90. John is survived by his loving wife of 67 years, Ila Faye Cundiff Funk; daughters, Linda King, and Beverly Funk; son, Stephen Philip Funk and wife Vicki; and grandsons, Jeff King and Brad King. At the age of 12, John moved to Washington DC with his family where he graduated from Eastern High School in 1941. During WWII, he served in the Navy in the Pacific front. He met his wife, Faye, on a blind date while training in Dallas. After their marriage in 1946, they moved to Washington DC where he worked first as an auto mechanic and then as a mechanical engineer at the Johns Hopkins Applied Physics Laboratory for over 25 years. During his first ten years at the APL, John attended Johns Hopkins University in the evenings where he obtained a B.S. in Engineering. John and Faye lived in Rockville, MD until 1982, when they retired to Cedar Creek Lake, Texas, where John loved to sail his boat. They moved to Dallas in 2001. John was an active member of First United Methodist Church, Dallas and chapter #3489 of the AARP. He was also a tutor with the Dallas ISD. A memorial service will be held at FUMC Dallas, on Saturday, June 29, 2013, at 2:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Methodist Children's Home, 1439 Methodist Ranch Rd, Waco.
