Cowden, Phyllis Anne Carter Phyllis Anne Carter Cowden died peacefully with her children by her side on October 3, 2009. Born February 6, 1931, in Dallas, Texas. Preceded in death by her husband, John Brandon Cowden, Jr., daughters, Cynthia Carter Cowden and Charlotte Warren Cowden, father, Robert Guy Carter, mother, Phyllis Gretchen Burleson Carter, and sisters, Sara Carter Mayes and Pamela Carter Taylor. Survived by her daughter, Anne Burleson Cowden Padilla and husband Fernando Padilla, son, John Brandon Cowden III and wife, Shannon Cowden, and daughter, Gretchen Clara Cowden Brasch and husband, Reiner Brasch; grandchildren, Anne Caroline Brasch, Charlotte Carter Brasch, Allison Clara Cowden, John Brandon Cowden IV, Catherine Patricia Cowden, Jorge Alberto Padilla, and Fernando Luis Padilla; daughter-in-law, Karen Cowden; sister, Jane Carter Holder and husband, Lewis Holder; and many nieces and nephews. Mother loved us unconditionally, as we loved her, and she was adored by many. Love and thanks to Carolyn, JoAnne, and Mike. Attended The Hockaday School, Edgewood Park in Briarcliff Manor, New York, and Graduated from Highland Park High School; Graduated from Southern Methodist University, receiving a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Education; Member of Pi Beta Phi Sorority; Presented by the Idlewild Club at its 1951 Debutante Ball; Founding Member of the Crystal Charity Ball; Member of the Junior League of Dallas; Volunteer for many years in the Surgery Recovery Room at Baylor Hospital; Member of the Dallas Woman's Club, Marianne Scruggs Garden Club, Brook Hollow Golf Club, Dallas Country Club, and Dallas Petroleum Club; Former member of Saint Matthews Cathedral of the Episcopal Diocese of Dallas. A memorial service will be held at 4:00 p.m., Tuesday, October 6, 2009, at St. Michael and All Angels Episcopal Church, 8011 Douglas Avenue, Dallas, Texas, The Reverend Doctor Robert S. Dannals and The Reverend Thomas G. Keithly officiating. A private interment will be at Hillcrest Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Visiting Nurse Association, 1440 West Mockingbird Lane, Dallas, Texas 75247, or a charity of your choice.
