Richard (Dick) Nierling Obituary
Nierling, Richard ("Dick") Richard ("Dick") Nierling, 69, passed away in his home in Dallas, Texas on July 16, 2013. He is survived by Phillippa, his wife of thirty-five years, and his four children and their spouses, Richard Nierling (Maury), Rebecca Stark (Henry), Alexander Nierling (Stacie) and Matthew Nierling. He was raised in Jamestown, North Dakota, son of Dr. Richard Nierling and Mrs. Grace Nierling. After receiving an engineering degree from the University of Minnesota, he went on to receive an MBA from Wharton School of Business at the University of Pennsylvania. For the last forty years, he has been a successful investment manager in Dallas, Texas. A loving husband and father, he was adored by each of his children. Although he himself was a record-setting sprinter, as well as a gifted basketball and baseball player, he will be better remembered for the countless hours he dedicated to coaching all manner of sports teams for his children and their friends. On weekends, he was likely to be found at a Texas Rangers game or a Baskin Robbins with his children and a crew of their teammates. He loved the open road, Dairy Queen, golf, the stock market, obscure (he would say "classic") movies, Harvey Specter, iceberg lettuce, the Texas Rangers and Frankie Valli. He taught his children the importance of turnaround jumpshots, careers that they love and cars with headroom. He despised salads with pretentious lettuce and entertainment systems with too many remote controls. He was an avid collector of baseball cards and Honda Pilots, as well as a music, film and tornado enthusiast. He was a much beloved father and husband and a favorite uncle of his eleven nieces and nephews. He will be profoundly missed. His integrity, kindness, humor and unfaltering dedication to his family will not be forgotten. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be sent to the Jamestown College Trust, attention Richie Nierling, 100 Crescent Ct. Ste. 1500, Dallas, TX 75201. With the fondest memories of his childhood, Dick was a lifelong supporter of the church, the youth center and the college in Jamestown, North Dakota. Dick established the Jamestown College Trust eighteen years ago, and there are currently sixteen students attending college through the scholarships that it provides. A memorial service followed by a reception will be held at University Park United Methodist Church in Dallas on Monday, March 22, 2013 at 4:00 p.m.
