Robert Irwin Thomas Benner Obituary
Benner, Robert Irwin Thomas Born August 13, 1941, in Philadelphia, PA, Robert Irwin Thomas Benner (Bob) went home to be with Our Lord on June 15, 2013 in Richardson, TX. He was 71. Raised in Philadelphia, Bob and his family became residents of Richardson in 1973. Bob made a difference in all his pursuits - Boy Scouts, Pi Kappa Phi Fraternity, coaching soccer, and playing tennis and golf. Besides his family, his lifelong passion was for stamp collecting. A philatelist for over 60 years, Bob was a proud member and President of the Collectors Club of Dallas. Bob was a brilliant man who graduated with an MS in Chemical Engineering from Drexel University. He joined Sun Oil Company and worked in the oil industry for 30 years as a research & development engineer, long range planner, and economist. Over the years he received many Engineering Awards and Patents. He then became President of the Galleria Credit Union before retiring in 2006. Bob is survived by his wife of 47 years, Doris Anne Roop Benner of Richardson; daughters Doris "Anne" Benner of Lewisville; Kelly Benner McLean (Scott) of St. Charles, IL; Barbra Benner Ardila (Camilo) of McKinney; grandchildren Connor James McLean, Kyle Scott McLean, Cade Thomas McLean, Jesse Camilo Ardila, Micah Denton Ardila, Charis Anne Ardila, Levi Benner Ardila, and Mari Celeste Wheeler; his sisters Barbara Benner Bill (Gerald) and Carol Benner Cobaugh (Paul) of Philadelphia, and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents LeRoy Irwin and Pelagia Shuron Benner. The family is thankful for the wonderful staff and caregivers at The Atria in Richardson and the Harris Hospice nurses who helped our beloved husband and father pass peacefully into eternal life. One of his final requests was to donate his body for medical research, and his wish has been granted. We would like to honor one other request from Bob, which was that any donations in his memory be made to the Richardson Humane Society (RHS), P.O.Box 852515, Richardson, TX 75085-2515. Bob loved this organization because his best friend Duke, a precious Chihuahua, was adopted there and was a comfort to him through his illness by being his constant companion. RHS is a non-profit organization dedicated to rescuing animals; providing them with food, veterinary care and shelter while finding new homes for them. We hope your donations will help other pets find a loving friend. A Memorial Mass and reception will be held for Bob at St. Joseph's Catholic Church at Jupiter and Spring Valley in Richardson, TX on Tuesday, July 9, 2013, at 1:30 pm. Bob loved his family, his work, and his life. He was a truly "gentle"man.
