Bingham, Robert (Bob) L. 1930 - 2013 Passed away peacefully at his home with his wife Marian and beloved dog 'Charlie' at his side on September 3rd, 2013. Bob was born in 1930 in El Dorado, Arkansas to Nauvie Brown and O.B. Bingham. He attended El Dorado high school, class of 1948, and Culver Military Academy, followed by the University of Tulsa where he earned a Geology degree. He was commissioned asensign in the U.S. Navy 1st duty assignment aboard The USS Leyte operating on the Eastern Mediterranean. A year later as officer of the deck on an aircraft carrier, Bob obtained his naval aviator wings in 1954 and served with the VP23 hurricane squadron. After Naval retirement, he attended Oklahoma University and obtained a degree in Geophysical Engineering. Bob then worked for Mobile Oil for 30 years as a geophysicist and geologist spending the first 12 years overseas in Tripoli, Libya, Fernando Po and Las Palmas/Canary Islands where he met and married his wife of 44 years, Marian. They were then assigned to Lagos, Nigeria, New York and finally Dallas where they settled in Lakewood Village. During an active retirement, he contacted and reunited 250 retired members of VP23 naval pilots, organizing weekend reunions every 2 years in Pensacola and Main until ill health prevented him from doing so. He also served as a city councilman in Lakewood Village. Bob leaves behind his wife, English family, friends and wonderful caregivers Michelle Williams and Jan Graham. Bob and Marian would like to thank Faith Presbyterian Hospice for their exceptional care, compassion and support during these past 4 months.
