Ratliff, Sara McGuire Fondly known to all those who loved her as "Honey", passed peacefully into the Kingdom of Heaven on April 30, 2013 after a brave battle with cancer. Sara was born October 10, 1934, the only child of Eric and Jere Smith. Sara graduated from Highland Park High School and attended SMU where she met her first love, Jvan J. McGuire. They were happily married December 19, 1953 at Sara's lifelong place of worship, Northway Christian Church. Sara cherished her role as loving wife and mother. She supported Jvan throughout his career, especially during his time as partner of Purdy-McGuire, Inc. until his death on April 9, 1979. She greatly enjoyed her time working at Friendly Chevrolet and later moved to Rodger Meier Cadillac. Through her work with Rodger Meier, she was introduced to the Salesmanship Club of Dallas. She found passion in serving others and was a loyal volunteer at the HP Byron Nelson Championship every year for over 25 years. In December 1990 Sara married Harold V. Ratliff. She loved and embraced Harold's children and grandchildren as her own. They shared wonderful years together before Harold's death April 11, 2001. Sara was a 22-year survivor of breast cancer and faithfully volunteered at Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital Dallas working with other cancer patients. She served on the Board of Family Gateway, and her love of Northway was evident in her work with Vacation Bible School for over 30 years, the Welcome Center, and many other ministries. Her greatest joy, however, was being "Honey" to the grandchildren that she so adored. Sara's grace, generosity, kindness of spirit and strength of heart was felt by all who were blessed to know her. She was full of love and laughter and spent every day living life to the fullest. Sara is survived by her three children - Nancy McGuire Stewart with husband Jim and children Sara Kennedy and Mary Margaret; Jvan J. McGuire, Jr. with wife Sandy and children Jvan Jack III and Cian Alexander; and Michael S. McGuire with wife Paula and children Grant Michael and Molly Michelle, as well as innumerable family and friends. Sara's life will be celebrated with a Memorial Service at Northway Christian Church on Friday, May 10, 2013 at 3:00 pm with a graveside service at Restland at 1:30 pm. Donations in her honor may be made to Northway Christian Church, the Salesmanship Club of Dallas, or Family Gateway.
