Tina Larimer Obituary

Larimer, Tina Tina Larimer, 83, of Dallas, passed away peacefully with her son and daughter at her side, on January 22, 2009. She was born August 31, 1925 to Jess and Roufie Taylor in Bonham, TX. Her husband, Harold, preceded her in death, after 40 years of marriage. She will be missed and remembered by her family, including her sister, Dorothy Taylor, Tina's daughter, Carol Yoder and her husband, Dennis, grandchild Michael Angel, his children, Michael Daniel and Holly, grandchild, Christopher Angel and his wife, Shae, their children, Shadie and Joseph, Tina's son, Gregg Larimer and his wife, Angie, and their daughter, Bethany. Tina graduated from North Dallas High School. She received her BS and MHPER from the University of North Texas. Later she continued her studies at the University of Houston and the University of Southern Mississippi. Tina enjoyed teaching, primarily PE and coaching, and influenced and helped many people. She taught almost 60 years. She started her teaching career at Marshall High School, TX, which included the Drill Team. Upon marrying Harold, after World War II, she taught with her husband at Liberty High School, TX then continued at John Marshall Junior High in Houston. They moved to Dallas and she taught at Our Lady of Good Council. Tina started her 50+ years in the Dallas Independent School District (DISD). The 1950's and 1960's she taught PE at Griener Junior High School, then elementary schools: Burnet, Caillet, Macon, Blanton, and DeGolyer. Upon her husband going back to Viet Nam, a second time, she moved to Gulfport, MS, and became the first elementary supervisor in the Gulfport schools. The family moved back to Dallas, after an one year absence and started back at Cabell Elementary, teaching PE and even coaching football (when DISD was one of the few districts with an elementary competitive program), then to Jeff Davis Elementary, then moved to T.C. Marsh Middle School, teaching PE and coaching, then to Boude Storey Middle school, teaching PE and coaching, and concluded her teaching career teaching PE at Marcus Elementary. After retiring in 1997, she substituted in over 30 DISD elementary, middle, and high schools through October 31, 2008. She barely missed school, after a bout with cancer. She was cancer free for the last 13 years. Harold and Tina Larimer were charter members of Walnut Hill United Methodist Church, which started at Bachman Lake in 1950. Tina enjoyed helping and remembering others, being in- volved in charity work and PE associations. She has been a great person, a wife, a mother, a grand- mother, and a great grandmother. The family will receive visitors from 6-8PM, at Restland, on January 27th. Funeral services will be at 3:30PM at Restland Memorial Chapel, on January 28th.

Mrs. Larimer was a great co-worker who I had the pleasure to meet at my short time at T C Marsh Middle school. She will be greatly missed.

Your family and loved ones are all in my prayers.

I met Mrs. Larimer at Marcus in 1996. She always had a smile on her face and would keep me uplifted with an encouraging word. She even came to my wedding June of 1996 ( I still have a picture with her). I will miss her, but now she's in Heaven whipping the Angels in shape!

One of my all-time favorite teachers! I mean, who could forget the teacher that taught you and your 3rd grade class how to do the "Hokey Pokey"??

I had the privilege of getting re-acquainted with Mrs. Larimer over several of the last 9 or 10 years. She was always such an encourager: just like she was as my PE teacher.

Blessings on you, Carol and Dennis, and Gregg, and all the family as you mourn her death but celebrate her life.

Mrs. Larimer was our P.E. teacher at
our Lady of Good Counsel Academy in the early 50s. She didn't have a mean bone in her body . . . just a
kind, dedicated teacher. We were
lucky to have her.

Mrs. Larimar was an inspiration for all of us at Marsh Middle School. She came back to Marsh after she retired and was a substitute teacher for many years. She was always pleasant and helpful to fellow teachers and was a "grandmother" to many of our students. Our thoughts and prayers go to your family.

I was one of the very lucky LG.C. (Our Lady of Good Counsel) girls to have Miss Larimer as a P.E. Coach in the 1950's. She was greatly loved by all her students and will always be part of our history.

I believe Mrs. Larimer must have known instinctively how to get the best from her 'kids' as her demeanor seemed to always to be effortless, relaxed and sympathetic. As with all effective teachers she was able to establish trust with her students making them want to please her and not disappoint or misbehave. I'm not sure such a skill can be taught and it certainly doesn't come automatically with a teaching certificate. Such teachers are uncommon and leave lasting impressions. Despite her efforts however, my lack of 'square dancing' ability was profound and resisted all attempts to improve it.

I still wouldn't want to do anything to disappoint her!
