William Herchman Obituary

Herchman, William William "Bill" Herchman left this earth on January 22, 2009 to be with his Lord and his loving dog, "Sunny". He was born on March 10, 1933 in Wilbarger County near Vernon, Texas. He graduated from Vernon High School in 1952, and attended Tyler Jr. College on a football scholarship 1952-1953. He was inducted into the Tyler Jr. College Circle of Honor. He attended Texas Tech University in 1954 and 1955, and played football for the Red Raiders. Bill was selected in the 3rd round of the NFL draft in 1956 by the San Francisco 49rs. His career covered the span of seven years playing in the NFL for San Francisco, the Dallas Cowboys and in the AFL for the Houston Oilers. After his career in football, he worked in concrete sales which spanned 42 years. He retired in 2004 from TXI. He was a loving husband and father. He loved and cared deeply for his family. I worked with Bill at Trinity Cement in the 1970's and continued to run into him in the market place through the years. Many fond memories of the good ole days. My thoughts and prayers go out to his family and friends.

Bill was a special and close friend of my parents. I had the fortune of knowing Bill growing up as a child and then into adulthood. In 1977 he took me to the Dallas Cowboys homecoming game against the Detroit Lions. I was able to meet present and past Cowboys players. This was very special to an 11 year old boy. I will always remember Bill as a kind and generous person. He will be missed deeply.
