Allan Dray Obituary

Dray, Jr. Allan K. Born May 28, 1927, in Vernon, Texas, to Alice and Allan Dray, Sr., passed away at his home in Dallas on August 22, 2008. Allan grew up in Vernon, graduating with the Vernon High School class of 1945. Immediately following High School he joined the U.S. Navy serving in the Pacific theatre until 1946. Allan graduated from SMU with a B.S. degree in geology in 1951. Early in his career he was a geologist with Sun Oil, later joining Murphy Oil Corporation in El Dorado, Arkansas. In 1961 Allan moved to Calgary, Alberta, and in 1964 became the general manager for Canadian Tricentrol Oils, where he was instrumental in the discovery of the Tiger Ridge gas field in northern Montana. Allan was a Master Mason, Scottish Rite, York Rite and Shriner for many years. He was also a member of the Sons of the American Revolution. Survived by his loving wife, Thelma, son Dan and wife Barbara of Dallas; daughter Laurel Conrad, granddaughters Taylor Lounsberry and husband Brandon, Jordan Conrad, Spencer Conrad, and great- grandson Devin, of Baytown, TX; sister Mary Alice Price and husband Tom of Arlington, TX; sister-in-law Betty Armitage of Calgary, Alberta; nephews Allan Price and wife Mary Jo of Temple, TX, Mark Price and wife Karen of Wichita Falls, TX, Lowell Price and wife Pam of Carson City, NV, and nephews Keith, Scott, Hal, and Wes Armitage, all of Calgary. A memorial service will be held 12:00 P.M., Friday, August 29, 2008 at Sparkman-Hillcrest Funeral Chapel, N.W. Highway. Interment will be at a later date at Dallas Fort Worth National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to the American Diabetes Association, the American Heart Association, or the charity of your choice. Dear Thelma and Family, I am so saddened by Alan's death. I feel lucky to have known him in my life and he will be missed. He will never be forgotten. He loved life and made it more interesting and fun for all of us. Such fond memories of such a great man.

Thelma
You and Allan are in my prayers. Whenever I think of him I smile. I think he loved life and got the most out of it. He certainly made me feel that way and I really enjoyed the experiences as a young man. I still think about ..never mind. I love you both and I'll see you soon.
