Otto, Dwight Richard Dwight Richard Otto, CLU, ChFC, age 82, was born in Indianapolis, Indiana on May 30, 1931. He passed away on April 17, 2014 in Dallas, Texas. When he was 8, his family moved to Dallas where he spent his lifetime. Dwight graduated from Highland Park High School in 1949. After high school he attended North Texas State University where he studied business and earned his degree in insurance. Following college, Dwight served in the Naval Reserves, then went into business in Dallas. He married Betty Buford Burks in 1953 and they had three children, John Edward, Lisa Kate, and Nina Lynn. Dwight spent his career of over 60 years in the insurance and financial industry where he earned many awards for sales and service and achieved the highest industry designations of Chartered Life Underwriter (CLU) and Chartered Financial Consultant (ChFC). He operated the Dwight Otto Brokerage General Agency for 20 years, his proudest professional accomplishment. He was a founding member of the Argyle Group, and was an active member in both the Society of Financial Service Professionals and the National Association of Insurance and Financial Advisors (NAIFA) for over 50 years, where he was honored with a Lifetime Achievement Award in 2010. Dwight was always active in his community. He was a member of the Optimist Club. He served on the Board of Trustees for the St. Simons After School Program for many years. He served on the vestries of St. Luke's Episcopal Church and St. Francis's Anglican Church. Dwight was a Friend of Bill's for over 25 years. In 1996, Dwight married Karen Martin Heronime; they were married for 18 years. He was a much loved family patriarch and will always be remembered for his willing, wise, and capable ability to help others at all times. Dwight is preceded in death by his parents, Herman Edward and Wahnita Thompson Otto; brother, Lloyd Thompson Otto; daughter, Lisa Kate Otto; and step-daughter, Kara Beth Heronime. He is survived by his wife Karen of Dallas; son John Otto and wife Charlotte of Corpus Christi; daughter Nina Huff and husband Richard of Carrollton; step-daughter Lisa Tveit and husband David of Farmers Branch; step-son Michael Heronime and wife Isabel of Richardson; step-daughter Anna Heronime of Farmers Branch; eight grandchildren; and 4 great-grandchildren. The family would like to give special thanks to Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital Dallas where he received the finest care possible during his last days. Viewing will be on Tuesday, April 22 from 6:00 to 8:00 pm at the Sparkman/Hillcrest Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at St. Francis's Anglican Church at 3838 Walnut Hill Lane in Dallas on Wednesday, April 23 at 3:00 pm. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Francis's Anglican Church, 3838 Walnut Hill Lane, Dallas, TX 75229.
