Fred W. Mitchell Obituary
Mitchell, Fred W. Fred Mitchell, 85, passed away June 16, 2014. He was born in El Dorado, Arkansas on April 6, 1929 to Fred Mitchell and Carey Gipson Mitchell. He grew up in Simsboro, Louisiana, attending Simsboro High School, where he graduated in 1946. Fred attended Louisiana Tech University, graduating with a degree in Mechanical Engineering in 1950. He proudly served his country in the U. S. Army after graduating. He later worked at various places as an engineer in El Dorado, Arkansas and in Dallas, Texas. In 1960 Fred met Beverly Bernethy at the YMCA in a Spanish class in which they were both enrolled. They married on April 15, 1961 and lived in the same house in Farmers Branch since 1962. They were married for fifty-two years. Fred was preceded in death by Beverly in 2013. He is survived by two daughters, Ellen Mitchell of Bryan/College Station, TX, Sara Mitchell of Austin, TX, and a large family of in-laws who were also close friends, of whom he certainly had many. He was considered an on-line expert on aviation and other subjects, and although he maintained a love / hate relationship with his computer, he was always happy to help anybody who was seeking an answer to an obscure question on airplanes or aviation, which he probably knew off the top of head. Fred was a private pilot and enjoyed flying airplanes and gliders with Beverly. He was an excellent "shade tree mechanic" and enjoyed working on the various cars that passed through his driveway. He had other lifetime hobbies and interests, including model trains, reading, photography and travel. In his 'retirement' years, he enjoyed renovating his family home in Louisiana. He was a member of John Knox Presbyterian Church in Ruston, Louisiana. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, June 20, 2014 at Fisher Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow in Cedarlawn Memorial Park in Sherman, TX. Family visitation will be held one hour prior to service time. Condolences may be registered at www.fisherfh.com Arrangements are under the care of Fisher Funeral Home, 604 West Main in Denison, TX.
