Robert Spencer Gard Obituary
Gard, Robert Spencer The last page has been turned and the book now closes on the life of Robert Spencer Gard. Our Lord has called him home. He passed away peacefully on July 26, 2014 in Allen, Texas. Robert was born March 7, 1922 in Omaha Nebraska, the eldest of two sons to John Hugh Gard and Pearl "Peggy" Trombee. He moved to Dallas in 1940. Robert was inducted into the Army in 1942 and served our country during World War II in the Asia Pacific with the 96th Division, 382 Infantry, Company H. After the war he returned to Dallas and in 1949 married Rita Eleanor Hamlet. They had two children, Christopher and Kimberly. Robert was widowed in 1963. In 1968 he married a widow, Dorothy Leona Horn (Nee Herron) who had three sons, Robert, Charles, and John. They were married for 37 years until her death in 2005. Robert was a commercial artist for Sears, Roebuck & Co. for 34 years retiring in 1985. Robert was of the Catholic faith and avid reader of books on the history and all aspects of religion. He was a good and gentle man who always tried to leave behind a smile and a laugh with whomever he met. Robert was preceded in death by his parents, his spouses, his brother Richard Ronald Gard and grandson, Gregory Lynn Horn. He is survived by his children, Christopher Gard and wife Linda, Kimberly White and husband Lynn, Robert Horn and wife Tommie, Charles Horn and wife Jan, and John Horn and wife Nancy. He is also survived by grandchildren Shane White and wife Deanna, Brandi Scott, Jennifer Knight and husband Ronnie, Molly Horn, Gretchen Horn, Christen Marshall and husband Danny, Patrick Horn and wife Ashley, Jeff Horn and wife Krystal, and Katy Ratliff and husband Matt. He is also survived by great-grandchildren, Natalie Scott, Travis and Amanda White, Rylie and Haylie Horn, Hunter Byers, Danielle and Andrew Marshall, Aubrey Horn, Grant, Gavin, and Gage Horn. In lieu of formal family visitation, Robert may be viewed from 1:00 pm - 8:00 pm Tuesday, July 29, 2014 at Laurel Land Funeral Home. A graveside service will be held at 10:00 am Wednesday, July 30, 2014 at Laurel Land Memorial Park.
