Roy Lee Moreland Obituary
Moreland, Roy Lee RICHARDSON -- Roy Lee Moreland, 83, passed away Tuesday Aug. 5, 2014. Funeral: 3:30 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 16, in Mount Olivet Chapel. Interment: Mount Olivet Cemetery. Visitation: 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at Mount Olivet. Roy was born April 16, 1931, in Grapevine to the late Clyde C. and Ella Mae Hackney Moreland and was raised in Smithfield. At the age of 18, he was drafted into the U.S. Army where he spent over a year on the front line in Korea. After the Army, he worked for General Dynamics in Fort Worth for nine years. He moved to Richardson to work for Texas Instruments as an electronic technician. He retired in 1997 after 35 years of service. Roy never met a stranger. He loved to meet people and would help out any of his friends. He met almost every morning for breakfast at McDonald's with his "Old Geezers" group. Many times they would meet up again for lunch at What-A-Burger or Golden Chick. If anyone wanted to find Roy, they knew to check those places first. He also looked forward to attending the first Saturday in May yearly Smithfield Reunion held at First Baptist Church of Smithfield on Main Street. The most painful loss for Roy was the death of his eldest son, Billy, in 2011. Not a day passed that he did not mention Billy and how much he missed him. Roy will be greatly missed, but I pray that when he passes though those Pearly Gates, Billy will be the first to greet him -- father and son forever reunited. Survivors: Wife of 50 years, Betty Mills Moreland; son, Donald Ray Moreland (Tobi) of Plano; siblings, Lester Moreland (Ima) of Springtown, Charlie Moreland of Carthage and Mary Sue Oney (Karl) of Carthage; 10 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
