Charles William Key

KEY, CHARLES WILLIAM, age 86, of Dallas, TX, passed away on July 22, 2004. Charles was born in Daingerfield, TX, on November 7, 1918, to Charlie Marvin and Addie Dessa (McTyre) Key. His family moved to Dallas when Charles was six years old and he remained here throughout his life. Charles joined the U.S. Army and proudly served his country during World War II. He was in the 3rd Army under General Patton and fought throughout France and Germany. He married Augusta Lee Hanby on January 17, 1953, and they enjoyed 51 years together. They started a real estate development company and worked side-by-side building houses and apartments throughout the Dallas area for many years. Charles was a person who accomplished much during his lifetime. He had many dreams that he fulfilled and proceeded to live life to the fullest. He loved to fly around the country in his Bonanza and spent many enjoyable hours in the sky. Charles flew around the world and set records flying west to east. Also, he loved being on the water sailing his "Contessa" sailboat. He crossed the Atlantic Ocean in his boat and had many exciting stories to tell from his adventure. Charles was an avid reader and loved sharing his perspectives on business, world affairs and life with whoever was interested in listening. He was a unique individual from the old school of thought who valued hard work and lived his life on his own terms. They broke the mold after he was made and there will never be another "Father Key". Our father, husband, and friend will be deeply missed. He is lovingly survived by his wife: Augusta Key of Dallas; his sons: David Key and John Key & wife Melissa of Dallas; daughter, Jean Collins & husband Steve of Plano. Also, he is survived by two grandchildren: Caitlin and Cole Collins of Plano, TX. A private service was held. His family wishes to thank everyone for their love and support.
