Vaughn ,Dr. William J. (Bill) Dr. William (Bill) Vaughn, 81, passed away Friday, January 23, 2009. Service will be held at 10:00am Tuesday, January 27, 2009 at First Christian Church. Visitation will be Monday, January 26, 2009 from 6 to 8pm at Bean-Massey-Burge Funeral Home. In Lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to the First Christian Church, 202 Tarrant Road, Grand Prairie, Texas 75050 or Manhattan Christian College, Manhattan Kansas. Bill was born September 20, 1927. Dr. Vaughn returned to Grand Prairie, Texas in April 2007, after a 3 year residency in Abilene, Texas. He concluded his Transitional Ministry with the First Christian Church of Grand Prairie in 2004. He has served as Transitional Minister for several Dallas area churches since his retirement in 1989. He was Senior Minister at Urbandale Christian Church in Dallas for 7 years. Before serving in Dallas, Dr. Vaughn retired from the United States Air Force after 29 years of duty as Chaplain for the Disciples of Christ, as a Lt. Colonel. His military assignments included Wichita Falls, Texas; Macon, Georgia; Eglin, Air Force Base, Florida; Duluth, Minnesota; Tucson, Arizona; Great Falls, Montana; Syracuse, New York; and Sherman, Texas. Overseas assignments included one year in Alaska, above the Arctic Circle; Okinawa; Korea; and Frankfurt, Germany. During his student days at Texas Christian University, he served the churches of Albany and Marlin, Texas. He entered the United States Air Force in 1953 and was released from active duty in 1955, when he became the minister of the First Christian Church of Albany, Texas. He then served the Main Street Christian Church of Waxahachie, Texas until his recall to the Air Force in 1958. Dr. Vaughn's educational background includes degrees from Manhattan Chritisan College; Brite Divinity College-TCU; Ball State University; and Columbia Pacific University, where he received his PhD in 1984 in the field of Counseling. He is a native of Wichita, Kansas. The Broadway Christian Church of Wichita ordained Dr. Vaughn in 1948. He is a member of the Hella Shrine Clowns and Retired Officers Association of Dallas. Bill's first wife, Peggy, passed away in April of 1989 after a long illness. He remarried Pat Meleen Baugh on October 13, 2001 at the First Chirstian Church in Abilene, Texas. Pat was a retired public school teacher and a graduate of TCU and Abilene Christian University. Pat passed away February 15, 2007. Bill has two children; a daughter, Cheryl Horton, of Grand Prairie, Texas; and a son, Ron, of Fort Collins, Colorado. He also has 4 grandsons; Shawn, 26, a graduate of TCU, Alan, 18, and twins, Mitchell and Stuart 12.
