Pierce, Martha Hern 85, passed away Saturday, July 23rd, 2011 surrounded by family. Arrangements are being handled by Fry and Gibbs Funeral Home, Paris, Texas. Martha was born February 3, 1926 in Paris, the daughter of Ted P. Hern and Nita Rucker Hern. She attended Paris schools and Paris Junior College. On May 9, 1943, she married Thomas R. Pierce. Throughout their marriage she lived in Waco, TX, Jacksonville, IL, Tulsa OK, and Garland, TX, before returning to Paris in 1977. While living in Garland, she was owner of Pierce Jewelry and Gifts in Ridgwood Shopping Center. She actively volunteered and was a member of the Tejas Garden Club. Gardening and growing roses were a lifelong passion as well as feeding the neighborhood birds and squirrels. Her family brought her more joy than anything else though. She loved her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren deeply and her greatest delight was cooking huge family meals so everyone could be together. She was a member of Central Presbyterian Church and was preceded in death by husband Thomas R. Pierce and son, Thomas B. Pierce. She is survived by children Jesse R. Pierce and wife Pam of Houston, Edward W. Pierce and wife Sherre of McKinney, John F. Pierce and wife Tina of Cooper, Nita Pierce Bankston and husband Michael of Paris, and daughter-in-law Vicky Pierce of Sachse. Grandchildren include Shannon Bowers, Tom Pierce, Leslie Pierce Hardenburg, Heather Meidinger, Monica Meidinger, Jessica Pierce, Nicole Work, Jessica Akard, Shannon O'Brian, Erin Bankston, and Megan Bankston. Great grandchildren include Avery Bowers and Connor Bowers.
