Garrett, Rev. Carlton Rev. Carlton Garrett, pastor of The Lord's Missionary Baptist Church, passed away Thursday, November 3, 2011, at the age of 82. A loving husband and devoted father, Pastor Garrett married Miss Johnnie Mae Davis on January 10, 1948 of Dallas, Texas. To this blessed and holy union eight children were born. Pastor Garrett's unremitting commitment to the ministry of shepherding God's flock drew multitudes of people from all walks of life to his congregation. His pastoral leadership and the progressive ministry of The Lord's Missionary Baptist Church became a hallmark in the South Dallas/Bonton/Bexar Street comm-unities from which he never left, and where the church remains to this day. Both a humanitarian and a philanthropist, Pastor Garrett labored to minister to those in need of a helping hand, creating programs for the homeless, hungry, and providing assistance for those who could not pay their utilities. He funded scholarships to help underprivileged youth attend college, and established initiatives to care for the elderly and disabled. His longtime and exemplary religious, community and civic leadership as one of Dallas' most beloved and respected Pastors brought him the acclaim of his peers throughout the nation.
