Phillips, Sr., Walter Leon Born December 7, 1923 and passed away July 1, 2012 in Dallas, Texas. Retired as a U.S. Postal Services Postmaster after 31 years of employment. Preceded in death by daughter, Loyce J. Cervantes; parents, Hosea & Amanda Phillips; sister, Eva Roderick; brothers, Durwood Phillips, William "Bill" Phillips; and mother of his children, Willeta Phillips. Walter is survived by son, Walter L. Phillips, Jr. and wife Rhonda of Irving; daughter, Eva G. Lynch and husband Jack Lynch of Ft. Worth; daughter, Dorleeta A. Wheelington and husband Mark of Seguin; daughter of the heart, Gena Jordan of Ft. Worth; 6 grandchildren; 8 great grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews; beloved sister, Grace Thomas; and brother, Jim R. Phillips and wife Nita. His favorite thing was being with his family. He was an avid gardener, master craftsman, loved his western movies and books. He always had a book in his hands. Services will be held at 12:30pm, Saturday, July 7th at Restland Memorial Chapel with visitation one hour prior to the service at the chapel, followed by burial at Grove Hill Cemetery in Dallas. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Odyssey Hospice, 2630 West Freeway, Suite 102, Ft. Worth, TX 76102.
