Smiley, Anne Hargrove Anne Hargrove Smiley, of Dallas, Texas, died peacefully on December 7, 2012, at age 100. She was born January 26, 1912, to Hugh Maxey Hargrove and Anne Chapman Hargrove in Beaumont, Texas. She married William Gilmore Smiley, Jr. of Houston, who preceded her in death in 1950. They had two children, William Gilmore Smiley, III with wife Lyn Peterson Smiley, both deceased, and Robert Hargrove Smiley with wife Teresa Hawkins Smiley. Anne is also survived by five grandchildren: William G. Smiley IV, Darla Fogie, Andrew Smiley, Erik Smiley and Maxwell Smiley, and five great-grandchildren. Anne was a graduate of the University Of Texas and Columbia University. She worked as a research librarian, then the librarian at Armstrong Elementary School in Highland Park. Following retirement she became a charter member of Park Cities Presbyterian Church, where she instituted the tape/CD ministry. Anne loved her church, its staff and its congregation. She was an avid reader and imparted a love of reading to countless students. Anne had a wry sense of humor which she shared with all, up to her final days. She was loved by her family, her church and her many friends and neighbors, and will never be forgotten. A graveside service will be held for the family on Wednesday, December 12, to be followed by a memorial service at Park Cities Presbyterian Church at 11:30 am, with reception to follow.
