Val Jean Jackson Burrow Obituary
Burrow, Val Jean Jackson Val Jean Jackson Burrow, 90, of Cooper, passed away Sunday, March 24, 2013. Born in Yowell, in Delta County, Texas, on June 6, 1922, to Otis and Eula V. Weaver Jackson, Jean was raised on a cotton farm near Klondike, Texas. The 1940 Klondike High graduate attended East Texas State Teachers College in Commerce on a valedictorian scholarship. She left to pursue a secretarial career in both Cooper and Dallas. Jean held positions with the Triple A (Agricultural Adjustment Administration) and the Texas Highway Department in Cooper before leaving to raise her children. She later served as Assistant City Secretary for the City of Cooper and retired in 1996 from the East Texas State University Library in Commerce. On November 20, 1948, Jean married L. C. Burrow of Race Track, Delta County, Texas. During their fifty-year marriage, they raised two children, Beverly Burrow of Cooper; and Jill Burrow Risman of Irving; and later welcomed their grandchildren, Adam Burrow Risman, New York City; and Jessica Megan Risman, Nashville, Tennessee. Jean was preceded in death by her parents; her husband L. C.; and older brother Billy Claud Jackson. Other survivors include her two sisters, Mary Sue Gammon of Waco, and Myra Jackson of Mineola; two brothers, Roy Evans Jackson of Dallas, and Larry Jackson of Mineola; and nephew Tony Burrow, whom she considered her adopted son.
