Dewberry, Betty Bruce Bauman Betty Bruce Bauman Dewberry, born January 18, 1930 to Julia Owen Bauman Hurt and William Allen Bauman, was received by her Lord and Savior on Thursday, April 11, 2013 after a courageous and graceful battle against Alzheimer's disease. A devoted daughter, loving mother, grandmother, trusted friend, and a lady of deep faith, Betty carried a copy of her favorite hymn "Trust and Obey" in her wallet. Betty often described her disease stating, "it's not painful, it only hurts the ones who love me." A Dallas native, Betty graduated from Woodrow Wilson High School and attended The University of Texas, Plan II program. A proud Longhorn, co-editor of the Cactus, lifetime member of Zeta Tau Alpha, received the coveted Orange Jacket and was recognized a Longhorn Campus Beauty. After graduating in 1951 with a Bachelors of Arts in Philosophy, Betty returned to Dallas, worked at Southern Methodist University until she married Dr. James Arch Dewberry (Bob) and moved to Waco, Texas. They were married for 24 years. Life in Waco was very busy with the births of her two daughters, Julie and Jennifer, on the same day only one year apart. Returning to Dallas, the birth of her son, Bruce, completed the family and her children became the true joys of her life. An active mother, Betty served as troop leader, basketball coach, and bible teacher. One of Betty's favorite memories was founding The Village Gardeners in 1956. These friendships remain strong today as well as the daughters of the next generation forming The Junior Group of The Village Gardeners. At the age of 46, Betty enrolled in Texas Woman's University to receive a Masters of Library Science and enjoy a 20-year professional career as a Law librarian for one of the largest firms in Dallas, Johnson and Swanson. Her passion for books, reading, and knowledge lead her to study at the University of Oxford in England. Survived by her family: Julie Dewberry Wilson and friend, Dr. Frank Oliver; Jennifer (Dee Dee) Dewberry Fuqua DeFeo and husband, Don; Bruce Dewberry and wife, Sharon; Grandchildren: Katie Wilson Payne and husband, Zach; Owen Wilson and fiancée, Susan Larned; Adam Fuqua, Michael Dewberry and Emily Dewberry. The family wishes to thank Dr. Madeline W. Harford; the loving caregivers of Avalon Residential Care Homes; Dr. Shahbaz Hasan and the Amity Hospice Staff. A memorial service will be held at Ellis Chapel, Park Cities Baptist Church, Thursday, April 18, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Dallas Public Library, 1515 Young Street, Dallas, TX 75201; Camp Summit, Inc. 17210 Campbell Road #180-W, Dallas, TX 75252; or Park Cities Baptist Church, 3933 Northwest Parkway, Dallas, TX 75225.
