William Guy McClung of Garland went to be in the presence of our Lord on May 1, 2013, after a brief and much unexpected illness. He was born on October 31, 1929, in Mt. Pleasant, Texas, the youngest child of Rev. W.O. and Minnie McClung. Guy graduated from Garland High School and remained close friends with many of his classmates throughout his life. He was married for more than 63 years to the love of his life, wife, Mary Lou. Guy began a very successful career at Texas Instruments (then GSI) in 1952. His career spanned 37 years, beginning in the machine shop at Lemmon Avenue. Throughout his career he held many positions at TI, mostly in manufacturing and assembly operations. When he retired in 1989, he was the Manufacturing Manager for the EO assembly operations.Over the years, he served as a President of the East Garland Little League, as a member of the board of directors of the Texins Credit Union, a member of the Garland ISD School Board, and a member of the Dallas County Appraisal Review Board.During retirement, he enjoyed spending time with family and friends, fishing, and hunting. He also enjoyed helping his friends who had ranches build their fences, roads, and barns. He also volunteered for the Labor of Love Project in Athens, Texas, which focused on repairing existing homes for disadvantaged families. Our dad was a dedicated and loving father, who cherished his wife, children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. He was loyal friend to many. He never met a stranger and was always there to help whenever he could. In addition to his wife, he is survived by his children, son Doug McClung and wife Monica of Georgetown, Texas; and daughter Debra Mayfield and husband Glenn of Garland. Also he was the proud Pawpaw to grandson John McClung and wife Krystal of Jarrell, Texas, and granddaughter, Megan McClung Tschoerner and husband Craig of Jarrell, Texas. He was blessed to have two great-grandsons, Kaston Angler McClung and Caden Oaks Tschoerner. He is also survived by his sister-in-law, Betty (Mrs. Rufus) McClung and several nieces and nephews. Even though our dad has left our presence on earth, his sprit and love will remain with us forever. He will be missed greatly. Visitation will be at Williams Funeral Home in Garland on Friday, May 3, from 6:30 pm to 8:00 pm. Following a private burial, the family invites you to join us at a memorial service celebrating our dad's life in the Chapel of the First Baptist Church, Garland, Texas on Saturday, May 4, at 11:00 am. Immediately following the service, there will be a reception. Memorial gifts in his memory may be made to the First Baptist Church-Garland, Building Fund, 800 West Avenue D, Garland, TX 75040.
