Mathews, Billie Abbott Billie Mathews, age 93, died May 2 after a full life. She was born May 27, 1919, in Hubbard, Texas, to Roy Leonard and Claudia Bateman Abbott. Her father's work took them to Corsicana and Sherman before they settled in Waxahachie. She graduated from Trinity Univer-sity in 1940 and met her husband-to-be, Quinten Snow Mathews, a fellow teacher at the consolidated school in Emhouse. During World War II, while her husband served in the Army Air Corps, she served her country as a draughtsman on the B-36 bomber in Fort Worth then moved to the classrooms of Highland Park Junior High, retiring to raise her children. She was an active parent at Arthur Kramer School, serving in many roles, from Bluebird leader to PTA president. She outlived her husband and her brothers, Robert and James. She leaves behind son Quin and his wife Martha Pruitt Mathews of Dallas, daughter Rebecca and her husband David Hebert of Alexan-dria, Virginia, and grandchildren Benjamin Mathews, Rachel Mathews, Matthew Hebert and John Hebert. She also leaves close friends of many decades. The family thanks the caring doctors, nurses and caregivers who extended and improved her final years, especially Dr. Howard J. Weiner, whom she regarded as a son.
