Ann was the daughter of Helen Nemeth Lembke and Roy Lembke. She was raised in Mokena, Illinois and graduated from Lincoln Way High School. Ann received her BA in Mathematics from the University of Denver in Denver, Colorado and a MA in Teaching from the University of Texas at Dallas. She did additional graduate study at the University of Illinois. During her teaching career, Ann attended numerous workshops and symposiums in mathematical applications and education. During Ann's 37-year teaching career, she taught public high school and community college mathematics in Dallas and Midland, Texas, Denver, Colorado, and Rantoul, Illinois. In Dallas Ann taught nine years from 1973 to 1982 at W. T. White High School. She was a teacher at The Hockaday School for twenty years from 1982 to 2002. She also served as a substitute teacher and tutor at the Kinkaid School in Houston for several years. Ann was a talented teacher who was dedicated, patient and passionate about helping students to learn and enjoy mathematics at all levels. She taught AP Calculus for many years. She loved working with high school students and had a natural ability of relating to them. Many former students and fellow faculty members have fond memories of the delicious treats she baked for them. Outside of teaching, Ann loved all animals, especially dogs. In addition to always having dogs at home, vacations were often planned around observing animals in their natural environments. All of these qualities and her love of teaching created a home that was full of nurturing, joy and love. Ann is survived by Gary Samuel Charlson, her soul mate and husband of 47 years, brother-in-law George Charlson of Bartlesville, Oklahoma, sister-in-law Judy Kreps and husband Gary of Wichita, Kansas, sister-in-law Lorna Hanson and husband Steve of Birmingham, Michigan, and their families, and many friends and former students. She was preceded in death by her parents Helen and Roy Lembke and her infant daughter Caren Ann Charlson.
