Robert Turney Obituary
Turney, Robert Larkin Age 91, passed away on Wednesday, December 18, 2013 at The Villages of Lake Highlands. He was born in Aliquippa, Pennsylvania, a small town in the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains of western Pennsylvania. He became an aeronautical enthusiast at a young age that included building and flying model airplanes. He and his brother, Joe, attended Blairsville High School. Shortly after graduating in 1941 he enlisted in the Navy and served as a pilot in World War II. After the war he attended Auburn University and graduated in 1949 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Aeronautics. He met his future wife Virginia Thomas there and they were married in 1950. He joined Chance Vought in 1951, later known as LTV, and continued there for 38 years in various departments including engineering, program development, and marketing. As a retiree he worked with other former employees restoring historic Vought aircraft, including the Corsair, and many others that are on display in various museums. He had a strong faith in God and has been a member of St. Monica Catholic Church in Dallas since its inception. He will be lovingly remembered by his daughter Anne, and son Paul and his wife Stephanie, both of Dallas, and his grandsons, Aaron of Chicago, IL and Stephen of Nashville, TN. He was preceded in death by his loving wife Virginia, his parents Mary and Joseph Turney, and his brother Joseph Turney, Jr. He will also be remembered by his sister-in-law Gloriann Turney, nephew Joe Turney, and nieces Mary Ellen Lewis, Maureen Guise, and Ann Dugan of Pennsylvania and Maryland, and their families as well as many wonderful friends. The family would also like to express its extreme gratitude to his caregiver Bryan English and to the staff of The Villages of Lake Highlands and Hospice Compassus for their care over the last year. Visitation will be held 6:00-8:00 PM, Friday, December 20, 2013 at Restland Funeral Home. Services will be held 10:00 AM, Saturday, December 21, 2013 at St. Monica Catholic Church, 9933 Midway Road in Dallas. Memorials may be made to one of his favorite charities, ALS Assoc., 1275 K St. NW, Suite 250, Washington. DC 20005
