Collier, Ethel Elizabeth Ethel Elizabeth Stannard, aka Betsy Collier, passed away, Thursday, Jan. 2, 2014, after a brief hospital stay in Arlington. Memorial service: 2 p.m. Saturday at the Shady Valley Country Club at 4001 W. Park Row, Arlington, 76013. Memorials: No flowers, please. Donations can be sent to American Betsy was born October 18, 1918 in West Haven, Conn. She graduated from New Haven State Teachers College in 1940 and started her career as a teacher in Connecticut. After meeting Jeff Collier who was stationed at Yale during World War II, they married in 1943. Through the years she continued to teach school as a substitute teacher. But her real loves were art and music. Eventually she gave piano lessons in her home and also taught children's art at the Upstairs Gallery in Arlington. She is survived by her children: Jim Collier, Candy Vinton, and Glen Collier (wife Debby Dailey); grandchildren, Jennifer Connell (husband Mark), Geoff Vinton (wife Kami), Abby Novak (husband Ben), Andy Collier, and Anna Collier; great grandchildren, Stefen Connell (wife Mandi), Gracemarie Connell, Jillienne Connell, Logan Vinton, Zachery Vinton, and Elizabeth Novak; and great, great grandchild, Hayden Connell.
