Raymond LaPlante Obituary
LaPlante, Raymond Edward (Ray) Was born December 25, 1922 in Berlin, NH. He died on January 10, 2014 in Plano, TX after complications from surgery. He was born to Arthur Joseph and Lillian Frances LaPlante who preceded him in death as did his brother Orton Arthur and his wife Peggy Sheridan, as well as his sister Dorothea Maloney/Binney. Ray's wife Dorothy Penner LaPlante also preceded him in death in 1998. He is survived by many nieces, nephews, and cousins, as well as his daughter and son-in-law Laura L. and Thomas G. Morris, Jr. of Plano, TX, and his three grandchildren: Thomas G. Morris III and his wife Christy French Morris of Dallas, TX, and Sarah Charlton Morris and Chandler Raymond Morris both of Plano, TX. Ray was a life-long member of St. Barnabas Episcopal Church in Berlin, where he graduated from Berlin High School. He completed Basic Engineering at Virginia Military Institute (VMI) and later graduated with a Bachelor of Science Degree at the University of New Hampshire. He was part of the "Greatest Generation" as he served in the U.S. Army from 1943-1946. Ray was with the 87th Division 345th Anti-Tank Regiment under General George S. Patton of the 3rd Army. He was a Lieutenant in the European Theater where he was decorated with the Bronze Star. He also later served in the Pacific Theater of Operations. Ray was a member of the American Management Association (AMA), Society of Plastic Engineers, the Plastic Manufacturers Association, and Chairman of their Technical Committee. He was also a member of the Construction Specifications Institute and a long-time Lions Club member. When he retired in 1987, he was the Regional Sales Manager for Alliance Wall Corporation of Atlanta. Prior to that, Ray was the Regional Sales Manager for Kaiser Aluminum and Chemical Sales Manager for the Mirawal Division in Dallas. He was also a Vice President/General Manager for Raymar, Inc. in Dallas, and previously worked for Bermico Fiber Products Division in San Francisco, New York, Boston, and Dallas in various roles. Services will be held this Saturday, January 18th at 12:30 PM at Restland Wildwood Chapel in Dallas. Graveside services will be held just after where Ray will be buried with military honors. In lieu of flowers, the family has asked that contributions be made to the of Dallas in honor of Ray.
