Barsachs, Barbara Mouritsen 85, passed away on June 16, 2014, in Dallas. She was born in 1928 to Thorvald and Carrie Christensen Mouritsen in Waukeagan, Illinois. Barbara graduated from Waukeagan High School. She worked for the U.S. Navy during WWII and graduated with a marketing degree from the University of Illinois, where she was a member of the Sigma Kappa sorority. Upon graduation, she moved to Chicago. Her brother, Edgar, had moved to Dallas and she moved here also in 1951 with her friend, Mona Becker Rash, to escape the cold winters. Barbara met her husband, Edwin H Barsachs, while working at Atlantic Petroleum in Dallas. They moved to Midland and Abilene and enjoyed their years there roaming around West Texas and New Mexico. They later moved to Tulsa where their son, Win, was born. When they moved back to Dallas, Barbara was active in the Petroleum Engineers Wives' Club, the Lunch Bunch and several book clubs. She volunteered at Old City Park and also managed McCall's General Store there for several years. Barbara and Ed enjoyed their supper club and wine dinners with friends. She was also a talented watercolor artist. Barbara and Ed traveled extensively and she was particularly fond of their Christmas trips to London and visiting Christmas markets across Europe. Barbara loved her summer trips to northern Wisconsin to visit her cousin, Ann. She was proud of her Danish heritage and enjoyed visiting relatives in Denmark. Barbara was preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, Edwin H Barsachs, and her brother, Thorvald Edgar Mouritsen. She is survived by her son, Edwin Harry Barsachs, Jr. and wife Carla of Dallas; her brother Robert Mouritsen and wife Lynn Mourtisen of Chagrin Falls, Ohio. She is also survived by her sister-in-law, Elizabeth Perry Mouritsen of Dallas; her nieces and nephews, Karen Mouritsen of Washington, DC, Mary Mouritsen Henderson and husband Garland of Alamo Heights, Texas, Mark Mourtisen and wife Jennifer of Austin, Texas, John Mouritsen and wife Kristen of Waxhaw, North Carolina, Carrie Mouritsen Pye and husband John of Basel, Switzerland and Christine Mouritsen Fogel of Auburn, Ohio; her cousin, Ann Christensen Jacobs, of Winter Park, Florida. The family would like to express our sincere gratitude to Alicia, Kitty, Dana, Sonia, Bert, Mundia Wendy, Laura and the staff at the Traymore for the wonderful care they gave Barbara. A celebration of Barbara's life will be held at 1:30 Thursday, June 19, at Holy Cross Lutheran Church in Dallas. She will be laid to rest with Ed at Dallas-Fort Worth National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Cure Alzheimer's Fund or the .
